Frank L. Ross, Jr., 79, Topeka, Kansas formerly of Atchison, Kansas died unexpectedly Monday, September 2, 2013 at his home in Topeka.
Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Benedict Church with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, with flag presentation by the United States Army Honors Team. A parish and Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited on Friday, September 6th at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:30 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict Church or the Oblates of Mt. Saint Scholastica and may be left in care of the funeral home. Frank was born October 19, 1933 in Atchison, Kansas the son of Frank Ross, Sr., and Mary Pauline Sanders Ross. He attended St. Benedict's Elementary School, graduating from Atchison High School.
He and Irma K. Amon were united in marriage on July 18, 1955 in Bamberg, Germany. Mrs. Ross preceded him in death on August 25, 2010.
Frank entered the United States Army on February 24, 1955, and served in Germany until returning to the United States until his honorable discharge on November 2, 1956.
He began his employment with the former Henderson's Drug Store at the age of eleven. He later became employed with Blish-Mize Company and later he and his wife served as managers of the Knights of Columbus Hall kitchen and bar in Atchison for 10 years and then began working for the Lansing Correctional Facility, Lansing, Kansas as a storekeeper until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Benedict Church, Council #723 of the Knights of Columbus and the William T. Jochems General Assembly of Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of Oblates of Mt. Saint Scholastica and Fleming-Jackson-Seever Post #6 of the American Legion.
Survivors include two daughters, Corine Ross, Topeka, KS, Elizabeth Stemmons, Topeka, KS, three sons, Robert Ross, Denver, CO, Rickey (Maxine) Ross, Atchison, KS, Erhard Ross, Prescott, AZ, ten grandchildren, forty-five great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, one brother, John Allen Ross, Atchison, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Rosa Lee Gorman, two brothers, Warner Ross and Leonard Ross.
