Florence E. Harper

Florence E. Harper, 83, Atchison, Kansas died Monday, February 20, 2017 at the Atchison Hospital.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Atchison.
Florence was born April 24th, 1934 in Atchison, Kansas the daughter of the late Daniel and Agnes Miller Jackson. She attended Lincoln School and graduated Atchison High School.
Following her education, Florence was employed as a human resources administrator for the city of New York, serving for 26 years until her retirement in December 1992.
In 1958, she married Benjamin Harper and to this union two sons survive Daniel and Wallace Harper. Florence made a life and home in New York City for many years and came back to Atchison to visit her family and friends frequently thru out this time. Eventually she returned home to Atchison to stay and enjoyed being reunited with her sisters and brother.
As her siblings went on to glory Florence found it very important to help and support their children and grandchildren therefore was a treasured part of everyone's family. This made her a very busy devoted mom and grandmother too many!
Florence enjoyed spending her spare time traveling and visiting with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. Florence was well known in her community and well-remembered in New York and Atlanta where she frequently visited thru out her life. She enjoyed playing bingo and so many community events held in town which she always enjoyed watching the children play and kept watch at the bus stop to make sure they all got safely on and off the school bus.
Survivors include her sons Daniel & (Valerie ) Harper Lithonia, Georgia, Wallace Harper Jr. Atchison, Kansas , six grandchildren, fourteen great- grandchildren, a sister Naomi Harris Leavenworth, Kansas, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other family members and numerous friends.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Agnes Miller Jackson, and siblings Daniel Jackson Jr., Eugene Jackson, Warren Jackson, Carolyn Allen, Dorothy Whitely, Ruth Anna Williams, Wealthy Fobbs, Hortense Wilkerson, and Carl R. Jackson
