Eugene Handke, 86, Atchison, Kansas died Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at St. Luke's Northland Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.

Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, January 17, 2013, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Louis Church at Good Intent, with Rev. Benjamin Tremmel, OSB, as celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Louis Church Cemetery. A parish rosary will be recited Thursday, January 16th at 6:30 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation with the family to follow until 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Louis Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Eugene was born February 19, 1927, in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Julius and Helena "Nellie" Watowa Handke. He attended the Irish Point School in the Good Intent Community.

He and Mary Falk were united in marriage on May 11, 1948, at St. Ann's Church in Effingham, Kansas.

Eugene was a farmer all his life, having raised not only crops but also cattle and hogs. He enjoyed hunting as a break from his farming duties.

He was a member of St. Louis Church in the Good Intent Community. He was also a member of the National Farmers Organization, even serving as the Chairman of the Atchison County Chapter.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of the home, a son Steve (Paula) Handke, Atchison, KS, a daughter Sharon (John) Ferritor, Leavenworth, KS, two sisters, Leona Busenbarrick, Atchison, KS, Ruthanna Keimig, Atchison, KS, a brother, Donald Handke, Huron, KS, five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Leo Handke.
