Ernstina Portenier, 79, Atchison, Kansas, died Thursday, October 15, 2015, at the Atchison Hospital.
Services to be Tuesday, October 20th at 11:00 A.M. at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 19th from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association.
Ernstina was born July 21, 1936, in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of Edward and Alice DeWitt Sukow. She lived all her life in Atchison and attended Atchison public schools, also graduating from Atchison Vo-Tech with an LPN degree in 1972.
After working for eleven years at Medicalodge, she worked for Wells Fargo as a security guard at Midwest Grain Products. Following retirement she was a private nurse, working all over the area for Kendallwood Manor service in St. Joseph, MO.
She enjoyed oil painting and sewing and her friends and flowers. She married Fred Portenier, Jr. in 1953 and later divorced. She then married Murray McRae in 1969 and later divorced.
Survivors include a daughter, Angela (Danny) Ritchie, Cummings, KS and a son, Fred (Amy) Portenier, III, Platte City, MO, a sister, Edwarda Sukow, Atchison, KS, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Jim and Sam Lancaster and an infant son in 1957.
