Elizabeth Jean "Betty" Johnson, 82, died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Atchison Senior Village.
Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Benedict's Church with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Benedict's Cemetery, Bendena, Kansas. A parish rosary will be recited on Tuesday, January 28th at 9:30 A.M. at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict Parish or St. Benedict School and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Betty was born April 26, 1931 southeast of Denton, Kansas at the family home, the daughter of Bernard L. "Ben" and Julia A. Horsh Halling. She attended Mt. Vernon School near Denton and Mount St. Scholastica Academy in Atchison, Kansas. She also attended Northeast Kansas Area Vocational Technical School.
She and Merle "Bud" Johnson were united in marriage on April 15, 1961 at St. Benedict's Church at Bendena, Kansas. Mr. Johnson preceded her in death on July 9, 1995.
Betty was employed with Dilgert's Tea Room from 1950 till 1956, Atchison, Kansas, May's Fudge Shop on Mackinac Island in 1956 and Atchison Laundry from 1956 until 1961.
She was a member of St. Benedict Parish, Atchison, the Altar Society of the church and the V. F. W. Auxiliary of Post #1175 of Atchison
Survivors include, two daughters, Elaine Drennon, Atchison, KS and Janet Johnson, Atchison, KS, three sisters, Julianne Elias, Six Mile, SC, Anne Cipriano, Yorktown, VA, Adelaide "Addie" Walters, Kansas City, KS, two brothers, Robert "Bob" Halling, Atchison, KS, her twin John J. Halling, Denton, KS and three grandchildren, Johnathan Drennon, Crystal Drennon and Richard E. Drennon, II.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Pete Halling, Luke Halling, Bernard Halling, and Joseph Patrick Halling, and two sisters, Irene Halling and Lucille Haupt.
