Dorothy Lee Smith, 88, of McDonough, GA, passed away on March 7, 2014 at Westbury Nursing Home in McDonough, GA.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 3:00 P.M. at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Hoover, officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 P.M. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sugar Creek Cemetery in Rushville, Missouri.
Dorothy was born in Rushville, Missouri to Harry Edward Baird and Esther Louella Cook on August 26, 1925. She married Wallace Roland Smith in 1944 in Rushville, Missouri. She attended Mount Saint Scholastica Academy in Atchison, Kansas. During World War II she worked making army cots in Atchison. She was a nursing assistant at St. Mary's Hospital in Russellville, Arkansas, for 9 years. She waited for her loved ones to return from war four times: her husband Wallace from WWII and the Korean War, her son Michael from Vietnam, and daughter Tegan from Desert Storm.
She is preceded in death by her husband Wallace, brothers Fred Large and Dick Baird, sisters Minnie Saird and Betty Powers and parents Harry Baird and Esther Cook.
She is survived by a son, Michael Smith of Minneapolis, Minnesota, a daughter, Tegan Marie Smith of Dallas, Texas, a granddaughter Audrey June of Minneapolis, Minnesota, a grandson William Smith and his wife Stefanie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, a great-grandson Mitch Rohrbach of Minneapolis, Minnesota, a brother Harry Baird, Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and a brother-in-law, Gene Powers of Sacramento, California.
