Dorothy I. Ostertag

Dorothy I. Ostertag, 92, Atchison, Kansas died at Atchison Senior Village Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, Jan. 11th from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Lutheran School Grant Fund or Kendallwood Hospice and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Dorothy was born March 31, 1919 in Doniphan County, Kansas the daughter of William S. and Myrtle M. Stark Sultzer. She attended elementary school in Doniphan County until moving to Atchison, Kansas where she attended Atchison High School.

She and Roy A. Ostertag, Sr. were united in marriage on September 10, 1938 in Atchison. Mr. Ostertag preceded her in death on August 20, 1986.

A homemaker and housewife, Dorothy also served as an Avon Representative during the mid 1950's, living in the north part of Atchison and walking to the south part of town to deliver the Avon orders to her customers.

Dorothy was a longtime devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she participated in the Kennedy Callers, Morning Break Group and Pastor's Sunday Morning Adult Bible Class. She was also a member of V. F. W. Post #1175 Auxiliary. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, reading, quilting, playing cards and going to bingo games.

Survivors include a daughter, Jeanie (Robert) Kincaid, Leavenworth, KS, two sons, Roy (Eleanor) Ostertag, Atchison, KS, David (Violet) Ostertag, San Diego, CA, two brothers, James Sultzer, Atchison, KS, Kenneth Sultzer, St. Louis, MO,eighteen grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by daughters, Mary Lou Navinsky, Janie Meyer, a great grandson, Shaun Ostertag, sisters, Ruth Burgoon, Beulah Dobert, and brothers, Bill Sultzer, Jesse Sultzer and Bobby Sultzer.
