Dorothy was born October 21,1923 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, daughter of Lawrence and Lola (Bolick) Feiling. She grew up in Pittsburgh and graduated from Allegheny High School in 1941. She married Virgil P. Moccia, of Clarksburg, WV, on November 25, 1942; they were married for 60 years. After marriage, she attended the University of Pittsburgh pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse, but eventually left school to dedicate her life to her husband, a Presbyterian minister, and their five children. Together they served churches in Pennsylvania and Missouri. Throughout the years Dorothy was an organist, pianist, and choir director in her churches.
She volunteered at Research Belton Hospital in Belton, MO from its opening in 1984 and for many years thereafter. She amassed over 18,500 hours of volunteer service there and was a fixture in the emergency department. She received the First Humanitarian Award recognizing her service to the hospital and the community in 2004.
Dorothy moved to Atchison, KS in October of 2007 after Virgil's death in 2003. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Atchison serving as an Elder and in choirs. She became an Atchison Hospital Auxiliary volunteer with the opening of the new facility. Her involvement in the Presbyterian Church and the hospital were a huge part of her life in Atchison; many people came to know her through her involvement in those organizations.
Survivors include four daughters, Janice Hargis, Amherst, Massachusetts, Jackie Lenz, Malden, Missouri, Ruth Moccia, Columbia, Missouri, Eileen Moccia, St. Cloud, Minnesota, and a son, Paul Moccia of Atchison. She has nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
