Dorothy Faye Ellis, 76, Atchison, Kansas died Thursday, November 07, 2013, at her residence.
Funeral services will be Sunday, November 10, 2013, at 2:00 P.M. at Sugar Creek Christian Church with Rev. Keith Hoover officiating. Interment will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery, Rushville, MO. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, November 9th from 3:00 until 6:00 P.M. at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Atchison, Kansas. Memorial contributions are suggested to Atchison Childcare and DOVES and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Dorothy was born September 1, 1937, in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of Cecil B. and Anna Violet Black Spinner. She attended the Sheaer School and Rushville Elementary, later graduating from Atchison High School in 1955.
She and Norman H. "Norm" Ellis were united in marriage on March 7, 1969, at the First Christian Church in Lawrence, Kansas.
Dorothy was employed as a retail associate for the JC Penney store in Atchison. She also was employed with Lockwood Printing Co., Midwest Solvents, a retail Clerk for Clark and Jacque Pregont at Rachel's Clothing Store and as a tour guide for the McCormick Distillery in Weston, Missouri. Her main task though was being a mother and a homemaker.
She was a member of the Christian Church. She held numerous memberships including Beta Sigma, Phi Sorority, VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post # 1175, and the Ladies Aid of Sugar Creek Christian Church. Dorothy was also very active in politics as a member of the Democratic Women's Federation. Dorothy was especially fond of gardening and doing yard work especially at their Bean Lake home. Her true passion in life was being an amazing mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband Norman H. "Norm" Ellis, of the home, four daughters, Debbie Hooper, Rushville, MO, Sherre (Michael) Hildman, Atchison, KS, Kim Sampson, Atchison, KS, Sidwell (Jay) Jones, Atchison, KS, two step-sons, Kully Ellis, Riverside, MO, Marcus Ellis, Vietnam, a Sister-In-Law, Linda Jones, Rushville, MO, ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Also a special friend Jim Slattery, Washington, D.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Anna Louise Klingenberg, and two brothers, Cecil E. Spinner and Melvin J. Spinner.
