Donald E. "Bud" Kane

Donald E. "Bud" Kane, 83, Atchison, Kansas died Friday, August 9, 2013 at Atchison Senior Village.

Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Patrick's Church with Rev. Gabriel Landis, OSB as principal celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Patrick's Cemetery with military honors by United States Army Honors Team. A parish rosary will be recited on Tuesday, August 13th at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:30 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Donald E. Kane Memorial fund for the Heritage Trust Fund of the church or Walnut Township Volunteer Fire Department and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Bud was born December 23, 1929 in Atchison, Kansas the son of John B. Kane, Sr. and Florence M. Byrnes Kane. He attended St. Patrick's Elementary School.

He and Mary M. Zishka were united in marriage on October 10, 1955 at St. Joseph Catholic Church by Rev. Matthew Hall, OSB and have made their home in the St. Patrick's Community south of Atchison their entire married life.

Bud served in the United States Army from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953.

Bud was employed with Blish-Mize Company for six years and then with the Atchison Government Storage Facility for thirty-five years until his retirement. Bud has also been engaged in farming in the St. Patrick's Community for over fifty-seven years.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and the parish council and St. Patrick's Cemetery Committee. He also served on the Walnut Township Board for thirty years, was a member of the Fleming-Jackson-Seever Post #6 of the American Legion, loved hunting and fishing and playing cards. One of his greatest enjoyments was spending an evening dancing with his bride, Maggie.

Survivors include his wife, Mary "Maggie" Kane, of the couples home, two daughters Joan (Rob) McGuire, Atchison, KS, Janet (Ron) DePinto, Littleton, CO, four sons, Randy (Carolyn) Kane, Atchison, KS, Alan Kane, Weston, MO, William (Cindy) Kane, Atchison, KS, Vincent J. Kane, Atchison, KS, two sisters, Lorene Clemens, Atchison, KS, Patricia Rush, Leavenworth, KS, two brothers, John B. Kane and Eugene Kane, both of Atchison, KS. and two grandsons, Kyle McGuire and Travis McGuire.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Florence Kane, a son, Robert W. Kane, three sisters, Doris Blankenship, Margaret Swendson and Mary Lou Andre and one brother, Elvin Kane.
