Dennis J. Peters, 59, Atchison, Kansas died at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Missouri.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 7, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Atchison, Kansas. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association and may be left in care of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final arrangements have been entrusted.
Dennis was born May 5, 1952 in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Donald and Betty Atherton Peters. He attended Franklin Elementary and later graduated from Atchison High School.
He and the former Debbie Megenity were united in marriage on October 6, 1972 at the Atchison United Methodist Church in Atchison, Kansas.
He was employed as a tool room attendant at Bradken for 38 years.
Dennis was a member of the Guys and Dolls Bowling League and the Steelworkers Union. He thoroughly enjoyed dirt track racing, bowling, shooting guns, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Debbie Peters, Atchison, KS, a son, Brian (Elisa) Peters, Bendena, KS, a daughter, Brenda (Matthew) Pyles, Atchison, KS, his father, Donald Peters, Atchison, KS, and eight grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Peters.
