David Earl Nottingham, age 77, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away peacefully from natural causes on April 20th, 2024.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Leslie and Barbara Nottingham and his nephew, Matthew Heerman. He is survived by his daughters; Karen Stewart (Jon) and Jennifer Cosens (Ben); his brothers and sisters, Micheal Nottingham (Patty) , Barbara Ann Bopp (Jim), Kathy Swann (Jim), Stephen Nottingham (Millie), Diane Heerman (Charles), John Nottingham (Becky), and Paul Nottingham; his grandchildren, Darian Hendrix (Zachery), Andrea Stewart, Abigail Stewart, Evan Stewart, and Owen Cosens; his great granddaughters, Valerie Hendrix and Vivian Hendrix; his Godson Daniel Nottingham; and 13 nieces and nephews.
David found joy and companionship with Debra Shortlidge, his devoted partner of over 30 years. She also survives along with her daughter, Erin Shortlidge.
David was born January 19, 1947 in Atchison, KS. He had a knack for invention and an unquenchable curiosity. The eldest of eight siblings, David grew up in Monrovia, Kansas. Answering the call of service, he graduated from the Air National Guard's Avionics technical school in Biloxi, Mississippi in 1967.
After technical school, David moved to Olathe, KS where he proudly dedicated over 40 years to his career in Avionics at King Radio, which is now Honeywell International, Inc. His expertise led him to advise military and government customers in his government programs role, including a stint working on Air Force One during the Reagan Administration. His work took him around the globe, visiting 37 countries in only four years and circling the world over 12 times.
A skilled drummer with a passion for classic rock, David's talents first landed him in a band called the Runabouts, and later in a local band with a teenage Melissa Etheridge. He never missed an opportunity to share his love of music, often found with a grandchild in his lap helping them reach the bass pedal or hi-hat cymbal. In his last decade, he returned to the Runabouts, playing at the local county fair and other venues.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13th at 10:30 a.m. at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home in Atchison, KS. Interment will follow immediately after at the Monrovia Cemetery, east of Effingham.
