Clyde Richard "Dick" VanWey

Clyde Richard "Dick" Van Wey, 79, Atchison, Kansas, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Atchison Senior Village Nursing Center.

Dick was born November 5, 1928, in Atchison, Kansas the son of Clyde and Cleo Jones VanWey. He attended Franklin Elementary School and Atchison High School.

He and the former Mary Lou Hegarty were united in marriage on May 9, 1968, in Miami, Oklahoma.

Dick served with Midwest Solvents Company, later Midwest Grain Products for fifty years, of which he was a driver for the company forty-two years winning many awards before retiring in 1991.

Through the years he was a mentor and foster parent for several hundred foster children. He was an expert horseman and enjoyed pleasure riding, trail rides, horse shows and rodeos. He also enjoyed camping and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Van Wey, Atchison, As, sons, Robert (Cheryl) VanWey, Danny VanWey, Cheyenne, WY, Dennis (Alla) Van Wey, Independence, MO, Russell VanWey, Topeka, KS, Cody Van Wey, Atchison, KS, six daughters, Claudia (Ray) Payne, Atchison, KS, Dottie (Bill) Mercer, Independence, MO, Danette (Francis) Brownfield, Independence, MO, Lisa (Chris) Ball, Olathe, KS, Sheila Van Wey, Atchison, KS, Laurie (George) Duncan, Faucett, MO, a granddaughter, RaChelle Kuntz, Atchison, KS, a loyal caretaker and friend, Richard Harrell, Atchison, KS, five sisters, Betty (Eddie Katalin, Pittsburg, PA, Margaret Nicholson, Ashland, OR, Connie (Larry) Seager, Meridan, KS, Becky (Alan) Edwards, Weston, MO, Marion (Larry) Wilson, Winfield, KS, two brothers, Larry (Vickie) VanWey, Atchison, KS, Jack VanWey, Jr., Ireland, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Jack VanWey, Sr., and four grandchildren.
