Charles W. "Sonny" Oxley, 80, Horton, Kansas died Saturday, May 12, 2012 at his residence in Horton, Kansas.
Memorial services will be Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Chaplain Jeff Bryan officiating. Interment of the ashes will be at a later date in Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, May 17th from 10:00 A.M. until time of services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to American Cancer Society or the Humane Society and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Sonny was born March 18, 1932 in Atchison, Kansas the son of Henry B. and Zoba Muncie Oxley. He attended schools in Atchison and Horton, Kansas.
He and the former Bonnie Lou Halstead were united in marriage on December 30, 1950 at the First Baptist Church, Atchison, Kansas. Mrs. Oxley preceded him in death on January 11, 2005.
Sonny formerly worked at Hixon Lumber Company and F.P. Gehring Company of Atchison and later with Capitol Electric Company as a carpenter for twenty-eight years until his retirement.
Sonny served in the United States Army from January 21, 1953 until his honorable discharge on January 20, 1955.
He was a member of Fleming-Jackson-Seever Post #6 of the American Legion and V.F.W. Post #1175 of Atchison. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attending auctions in the area.
Survivors include two sons, Chuck (Marilyn) Oxley, Atchison, KS, Ferol Oxley, Horton, KS, a brother, Ben Oxley, Kansas City, MO, two grandchildren Josh (Emily) Oxley, Morgan (Adam Werner) Oxley and two great grandchildren, Frank Oxley and Cedra Oxley.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Billie Piper, Thelma Piper, Mary Alice Hosier, Freda Kelley, Ellen Neumann and a brother, Melvin Oxley.
