Caroline R. Shufflebarger, 81, Atchison, Kansas, died at her residence.
  
  
  Funeral services will be Thursday, November 10, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. at the Atchison United Methodist Church with Rev. Cynthia Meyer and Rev. Doug Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Lancaster Cemetery. Visitation with the family will take place one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Atchison Hospice or Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the American Lung Association and may be left in care of the funeral home.
  
  
  Caroline was born August 29, 1930, in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of Jesse and Charlotte Nettleton Clem. Following the death of her mother her father married Kathryn Anderson and Caroline was raised by her aunt, Frances Clem. She attended Bellevue School and Atchison High School later graduating from Atchison County Community High School in Effingham, Kansas.
  
  
  She and Eugene Shufflebarger were united in marriage on October 3, 1948, in Lancaster, Kansas. Mr. Shufflebarger preceded her in death on June 18, 2003.
  
  
  Caroline was a homemaker, until her children were in upper school years when she began working for Saunders Manufacturing. She later moved on to work as a cook for St. Benedict's Abbey until her retirement.
  
  
  Caroline was a member of Atchison United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, 3-M Circle, served as a Sunday school teacher during her childrens youth, the Atchison Historical Society, assisted with delivering meals on wheels, Jean Young's Grieving Group and the Girls of Atchison High School class of 1948.
  
  
  Survivors include a son, Leslie (Cathy) Shufflebarger, Atchison, KS, two daughters, Reva (Eugene) Thorpe, Cape Fair, MO, Kathy (George) Smith, Gower, MO, two brothers, David Clem, Lancaster, KS, Richard Clem, Lancaster, KS, two sisters, Betty Adams, Portland, OR, Alice Rollf, Gardner, KS, six grandchildren, one step grandchild, eight great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, a special nephew Alan Ham, a special niece, Terri Henderson who helped take care of her, numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved dog CoCo.
  
  
  She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, an infant son, Keith Ray, a son, Jeffery Linn, a sister, Lorene Ham, a grandson, Joey Shufflebarger, and her aunt Frances Clem.
