Brenda Louise (Russell) Patterson

Brenda Louise (Russell) Patterson, 67 years old, currently of Atchison, Kansas, passed on from this life on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Atchison Medicalodge.

Homegoing Memorial Services will be on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Kelley officiating. Cremation care has been entrusted to the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.

Brenda Louise Russell was born in Hiawatha, Kansas on July 27, 1953 to Betty Jo Hayes Gillum-Martin and Jimmy Russell.

Brenda was a very bright student who loved cheerleading and graduated from the Atchison High School Class of 1971.  Upon graduating high school Brenda attended and graduated from Wichita State University, where she obtained her BSN.  She worked the entirety of her 30 plus career as a nurse in Oklahoma City.  She served her community during the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing and provided comfort and care to those injured during this tragic event.

Brenda was united in marriage to Everett Patterson and was a devoted and loving wife.  Although they never had any children of their own, together they helped raise several of their nieces and nephews.

She was a wonderful woman with the great sense of humor; some of her favorite pastimes included spending time with family and also her special friend fellow Wichita State University nursing classmate Linda Ridley, she also enjoyed working out and sending out her annual Christmas card signed by herself, her husband, and their dog "Magic."

Brenda was proceeded in death by her husband Everett Patterson, her mother Betty Joe Gillum-Martin, her father Jimmy Russell, her sisters Donna Russell Bratton and Sherry Gillum, and nephew Tevin Gillum.  She is survived by her brother Kenton Russell and sister Leva Gillum. She is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and longtime friends.
