Betty R. Van Scoy, 85, Atchison, Kansas died Friday, August 31, 2012 at University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 8, 2012, at 1:30 P.M. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Atchison, with Rev. Andrew Grosso, officiating. Interment will follow in the Trinity Episcopal Gardens. A reception with the family will follow the interment at the Trinity Episcopal Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Episcopal Church Loaves and Fishes Program and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, 208 N. Fifth Street, Atchison, Kansas 66002. Betty was born February 24, 1927, in Jacksonville, Florida, the daughter of Clarence and Irene Allen Robinson. She and her family moved to Council Bluffs, IA, where she attended school and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School. She moved to Atchison in 2002.

She and William D. Van Scoy were united in marriage in Council Bluffs, IA, in 1946. They were later divorced.

Betty was employed with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Council Bluffs, IA, then moving to Oxnard, CA, and working in many different facets for General Telephone before her retirement.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Atchison, Kansas. In her free time she enjoyed oil painting, crocheting, playing the piano and reading. She loved spending time with her family and especially, grandchildren and great grandchildren attending their sporting and school events.

Survivors include a daughter, Cathy (Steven) Christ, Atchison, KS, a son, Michael (Dana) Van Scoy, Murrieta, CA, a brother, Bill Robinson, NM, a sister, Susan Teague, Gaffney, SC, five grandchildren, Kristen Reiff, Atchison, KS, April (Harold) Sass, Atchison, KS, Scott Christ, Prescott, AZ, Patrick (Lucy) Van Scoy, Temecula, CA, Genie (Mark) Stearns, Murrieta, CA, nine great grandchildren a great-great grandson, and special friends Tommy, Erin and Christofer Goodpasture.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
