Betty Ann Carr, 82, Shawnee, Kansas formerly of Atchison, Kansas died Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Sharon Lane Nursing Center, Shawnee.

Memorial services will be Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church, Atchison, Kansas. Interment of the cremated ashes will be Friday, April 10, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at White Chapel Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, April 9th from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P. M. at the First Baptist Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Atchison, Kansas with whom the final arrangements have been entrusted.

Betty was born September 2, 1932 in Miller, Missouri the daughter of John and Golda Hunter Speilman. She attended Roudtree Elementary School, graduated from Springfield High School and attended and graduated from Draughans Business College in Springfield. She moved to Atchison, Kansas in 1967.

Betty was employed in the clerical department of the Atchison Police Department for twenty-seven years retiring in 1995.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, American Baptist Women's Ministry, former member of the church choir, served on the church board of trustees and Christian Education and a member of the former Atchison's Shephard Center, and former member and vice president of the Atchison Business and Professional Women's Organization, she was recognized during National Business Women's Week several years ago by the local club as "Woman of the Year" and presented a plaque.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy A. Killebrew, Overland Park, KS, Carol L. Farmer, Overland Park, KS, a brother, Joseph (Joyce) Speilman, Overland Park, KS, and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Allen Sturgis in 1958 and a longtime close friend Delbert Gentry in 2009.
