Betty Rose Brown

May 19, 1939 — March 1, 2026

Atchison

Betty Rose Brown, a cherished member of the Atchison community, entered this world May 19, 1939, and gracefully departed into the arms of Jesus on March 1, 2026. She lived a remarkable life filled with unwavering dedication, love, and a profound commitment to her family and community.

Betty Rose's life will be celebrated on Thursday, March 12, 2026, with a Homegoing Service at 1:00 PM at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 12 Noon prior to the service. She will be laid to rest at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the Second Christian Church. Her service will be livestreamed beneath her life reflection here at www.arensbergpruett.com.

Betty Rose began her career cleaning houses; she served as a Head Start Teacher and an Aid at Central School until beginning what would truly leave her mark on the world when she became one of the first civilian dispatchers for the Atchison Police Department in 1973. Her career spanned over three decades, culminating in her retirement in 2004 from the Atchison County Joint Communication Center. Throughout these years, she made deep and lasting friendships with her colleagues, affectionately referring to them as "her officers and her firefighters." Betty Rose’s engaging spirit meant that she remained in close touch with many, even after retirement, fostering connections that truly felt like family.

Betty Rose was actively involved in her community and wore many hats; she served as a Juneteenth Committee Member, was an enthusiastic NAACP Member, and held the honor of being the Lincoln School Alumni Treasurer. Her contributions extended beyond her professional life into every opportunity she had to uplift those around her.

Known for her vibrant personality, Betty Rose found joy in the simplest of pleasures. She delighted in her crossword scratch-off tickets from local convenience stores and took pride in her 1984 Chevrolet Caprice, boasting a custom license plate that reflected her unique spirit "BROS911". The entire community felt her warmth and kindness, which resonated deeply among those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Betty Rose's role as a matriarch was marked by the profound love she showed her family. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Colene Brown-Wilson, who she adored unconditionally. Her legacy continues through her grandson, Justin (Paula) Brown, her three great granddaughters, Aaliyah, Bianca, and Winter; and her stepsister, Barb Garrison. She also took claim to an additional son, Adler Pruett, further expanding her loving family. She loved her friends at Arensberg-Pruett and would constantly stop by just to “check in” and make sure all was well.

She was a proud member of the Second Christian Church and enjoyed sharing meals at the church with family and friends. She attended Soup and Sermon in Atchison for countless years. Betty Rose was known for her enthusiasm at the dining table; if she didn't finish everything on her plate, she ensured that foil was ready for her leftovers, to take home for her next meal or two!

Betty Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert H. Brown, Sr. and Wilma P. Churchill Brown; her son, Thaddeus E. Brown; her brothers, Sherman Brown and Herbert Brown; her sister, Evadna Jenkins; and her son-in-law, Larry Wilson. Each of these loved ones left an imprint on her heart, and their memories live on in the stories she cherished and shared.

As we remember Betty Rose Brown, let us celebrate not only the life she led but the deep impact she had on all who crossed her path. Her legacy of love, friendship, and community service will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
