Bernard Clair Schuler, 78, Atchison, Kansas died Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Missouri.

As per the wishes of Mr. Schuler there will be no scheduled services. Mr. Schuler has been cremated. The family will have a private burial of the cremated remains at a later date. A guest book is available at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Atchison for friends to sign. Memorial contributions are suggested to American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association and may be left in care of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.

Bernard, known by his family and friends as "Clair", was born September 25, 1935 in Nortonville, Kansas the son of Wilfred and Leila Cope Schuler. He graduated from Nortonville High School and then attended K-State University.

He and Beverly Pierce were united in marriage on October 15, 1959 in Atchison, Kansas.

Clair served in the United States Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1962.

He was a member of the Fleming-Jackson-Seever Post #6 of the American Legion in Atchison, the Atchison Elks Club and Nortonville Knights of Columbus Council # 2093.

Survivors include his wife, Bev Schuler of the couple's home in Atchison, two sons, Wade (Tammy) Schuler, Atchison, KS, Jeff (Tammy) Schuler, Atchison, KS, a daughter, Michelle (Tom) Quinlan, Atchison, KS, four brothers, Alan Schuler, Leavenworth, KS, Paul Schuler, Leavenworth, KS, Glenn Schuler, Easton, KS, Dennis Schuler, McClouth, KS, a sister, Rita Ostgren, Leavenworth, KS, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
