Bernard A. "Barney" Halling, 93, Denton, Kansas died Friday, August 24, 2012 at Atchison Medicalodge.

Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Benedict's Church at Bendena, Kansas. Interment will follow in the St. Benedict's Cemetery. A parish rosary will be recited on Wednesday, August 29th at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Atchison, Kansas with visitation to follow until 8:30 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Benedict's Church of Bendena or Hospice and may be left in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.arensbergpruett.com.

Bernard was born March 23, 1919 at home on the family farm in Denton, Kansas the son of Bernard "Ben" and Julia Horsch Halling. He attended the Mt. Vernon rural school in Doniphan County schools in the Denton area.

Barney, as he was known by his family and friends was a farmer and has lived on the same farm stead his entire life. His love was working and tending the soil of the earth. He was a talented engine mechanic, tinkering with engines and motors until they functioned in proper working order like they were manufactured to do was his hobby and pastime enjoyment. Another enjoyment of his was watching the "classic old movies" of the past. He also enjoyed attending farm sales.

He was a faithful longtime member of St. Benedict's Church, Bendena, Kansas.

Survivors include five sisters, Lucille Haupt, Atchison, KS, Adelaide "Addie" Walters, Gravois Mills, MO, Anne Cipriano, Yourktown, VA, Betty Johnson, Atchison, KS, Julianne Elias, Six Miles, SC, two brothers, Robert Halling, Atchison, KS, John J. Halling, Denton, KS and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barney was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Irene Halling and three brothers, Pete Halling, Luke Halling and Joe Halling.
