Barbara J. Dykstra, 81, Atchison, Kansas, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Carriage Square Health Care, St. Joseph, Missouri.
Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, August 31, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Benedict Church with Rev. Gabriel Landis, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Barbara was born February 9, 1932, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Walter J. and Loretta Wilkinson Lorenz. She attended Martin East Elementary School and graduated from Atchison High School in 1950.
She and William A. "Bill" Dykstra were united in marriage on June 13, 1953, at Sacred Heart Church in Atchison.
Barbara was employed with Locomotive Finished Materials Company, later Rockwell International Corporation as a payroll clerk and data processor for 37 years until her retirement.
She was a member of St. Benedict Church and the church women's club. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies included crocheting and painting. She was an excellent gardener and was meticulous about her flowers.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Dykstra, Atchison, KS, a brother, Francis (Evelyn) Lorenz, Atchison, KS, and three nephews, Steve Lorenz, Atchison, KS, Michael Lorenz, Kansas City, MO, and Mark Lorenz, Wichita, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents a brother, Vincent Lorenz, and a nephew Darrel Lorenz.
