Barbara Jo Derrell, 63, Belleville, Illinois died Thursday, October 17, 2013 at her residence.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 25, 2013 at 1:30 P.M. at the Cornerstone SDA Church, 121 N. 9th St., Atchison, KS, with Elder Gabe Taylor and Kenneth Smith officiating. Interment will be Monday, October 28, 2013 in the Leavenworth National Cemetery at 1:30 P.M. Visitation with the family will be Friday, October 25th at 1:00 P.M. until the time of the services at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the family.
Barbara Jo was born September 16, 1950 in Atchison, Kansas the daughter of Roscoe Perry and Betty Jo Smith.
A graduate of Atchison High School, she received a practical nurse's license in 1985 and became a registered nurse in 2001 with an associate degree from Sanford Brown College, St. Louis, Missouri.
She and John Derrell were united in marriage on May 6, 1992 in Atchison, Kansas
Survivors include her husband John Derrell, a son, Albert C. Bates, Memphis, TN, two daughters, Betty J. (Samuel) Fields, St. Louis, MO, Schmaka Bates (fiancé, Earnest McCaa), Belleville, IL, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, six sisters, Brenda Perry, Atchison, KS, Phyllis Smith and Connie White, both of Belleville, IL, Vickie Thompson and Jorgann White, both of Savannah, GA and Denise Moore, St. Joseph, MO.
Barbara Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Betty Jo, nee Smith, Perry, a brother, Clint Walker White and a sister, Elsie Hogan.
